What you say to Ersa

When you talk or type to Ersa, that message goes to Anthropic's Claude API (through Ersa's own server, not straight from your device) so Claude can write a reply. Same goes for when Ersa's quietly checking whether something you said should be saved as a held thought, or whether you just resolved one out loud.

Each message only gets tagged with a random ID that was generated when you installed the app. It's never linked to your name, your email, an account, or anything else that could identify you.

Nobody at Ersa reads your conversations. There's no dashboard, no log, no review process, nothing like that. The only way anything you say ever reaches an actual person is if you choose to send it yourself (see "What you can choose to send" below).

What's handled entirely on your device

If a message has language about self-harm or suicide in it, Ersa catches that locally, before anything gets sent anywhere. She shows you a fixed set of crisis resources (like 988 or Crisis Text Line) directly, and that message never even gets sent to Claude.

What's stored locally, on your device

Your conversation history, your held thoughts ("Memories"), and Ersa's sense of which check-ins actually help you, all of that lives in the app's local storage on your device, not on any server. Delete the app and it all goes with it. There's no separate "clear my data" button right now, uninstalling is how you clear it.

What you can choose to send

Tapping "This felt off" or "Report an issue" sends exactly what you'd expect, whatever category you picked, or whatever note you typed, straight to my inbox, so I can actually see it and go fix it. That's the only way anything about your specific experience reaches an actual person, and it only happens if you tap it.

What I can see in aggregate

Ersa keeps anonymous daily counts, how many installs opened the app, how many chatted, how many sent feedback or a report, no message content, no way to tell which count came from which person. It's just so I can tell whether the app's actually being used, not what anyone specifically said.

The beta waitlist

If you join the beta waitlist on this site, I store your email so I can invite you when the beta opens, and that's the only thing it's used for. Ask me at the address above and I'll remove it.

Anthropic's role

Anthropic's Claude API processes the messages Ersa sends it so it can write a reply. That's governed by Anthropic's own API terms and privacy policy, separate from this one, worth checking their current published terms directly if you want the specifics on how they handle API data.

Not a medical device

Ersa's a focus and attention tool. She's not therapy, not a crisis service, not a substitute for professional care. If you're going through something she's not equipped for, please reach out to an actual professional or a crisis line.

Who this is for

Ersa's meant for people 13 and up.

This policy might get updated as Ersa changes, especially once she's out of beta. Any real changes will show up here with a new date.
